Radical Appearances

The aim of this display is to highlight the subject of subcultures in the context of hair, makeup and body adornment. This underrepresented subject encompasses a range of subcultures that explores identity with the use of experimental looks.

The common themes raised throughout the development of this project are: revolting the zeitgeist, classification through style tribes, a sense of belonging and fashioning a collective image.
From Vidal Sassoon’s Mod Bobs to Alexander McQueen’s Club Kid inspired makeup Radical Appearances identifies and uncovers these themes within LCF’s Special Collections.
